Position: Supply Staff (Early Childhood Educator, Teacher)
Starting Range: $20.99 – $23.61/hour (Pending Qualifications)
Department: Child Care Centre/Education Unit
Report to: Manager, Child Care Centre/Manager Education Unit

POSITION SUMMARY
The Supply Staff will work within an established framework for the delivery of educational/child care services. The Supply Staff are responsible for providing instruction/childcare, managing the classroom/childcare environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher/early childhood educator.
These positions function within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures, and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of Garden River First Nation, and contribute to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

DUTIES

  • Helping learners/children with their educational and social development;
  • Maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Providing adequate supervision to ensure a safe, respectful, secure and clean classroom/child care environment;
  • Overseeing learners out of the classroom and during lunch breaks;
  • Assisting with the implementation of daily activities for the children;
  • Communicating in a friendly and positive manner towards parents, children and administrators
  • Supervise group activities of learners and carry out administrative tasks as required.
  • Supporting children with special needs, which may include assisting with mobility, communication and personal hygiene, as well as with their school work.
  • Performing other duties as may be required or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required Early Childhood Education Diploma, Social Services Degree or College Diploma in Human Services or related studies from a recognized institution, or Youth Programming (preferred) with some academic courses (English, Math);
  • Excellent facilitation, coordination, assessment and planning skills;
  • Knowledge of early childhood best practices and related current research;
  • Current First Aid Certificate, CPR Certificate, familiarity with Health and Safety regulations and WHMIS would be an asset;
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge of the First Nation cultural values and traditions;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team;
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer technology (e.g. MS Word, WordPerfect, Excel, Internet, Email, Outlook).
  • Must provide a clear Criminal Records Check with a clear Vulnerable Sector Screen prior to employment
