JOB DESCRIPTION:

SSMIC is currently looking for a Business Development Research Analyst (Intern) for its Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) Services. Under the direction of the Director of Business Development and Services, this position will assist the Business Development Team with optimizing business processes, and working with science and technology-oriented entrepreneurs, with research and advisory services.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Analyst will participate in the following activities:

  • Participate in and prepare resources for technology focused client meetings
  • Assist with maintenance and improvements of internal CRM platform and processes
  • Undertaking research for upcoming trends, practices and opportunities surrounding:
    o Artificial Intelligence
    o Blockchain
    o Internet of Things
    o Medicare
    o Smart Cities
    o Electric Vehicle (EV)
    o Web 3.0
    o Development of regional ICT vendor and service provider research and interactions
    o Participate in other research efforts as identified
  • Assisting to develop a more granular look at regional workforce trends, gaps, and upcoming opportunities
  • Produce statistical analysis using CRM and other sources of data to benchmark performanc
  • Track, maintain, and gather client information through survey
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of presentations, information sessions, and workshop planning
  • Support the development of comprehensive policies and procedure manuals for Business Services to support operation and client services
  • Update and maintain client related information utilizing internal CRM
  • Attend professional development classes/seminars in all areas of Business Development
  • Assist in other related programing outreach activities of SSMIC as needed

Qualifications

  • College diploma or University degree, preferably in a Business, Information Technology or Computer Science field
  • Strong research skills and experience conducting research
  • An aptitude for accurate, highly detailed analytical skills
  • Ability to create and give presentations showcasing research findings to large audiences
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to utilize the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Passion for science and/or technology.
  • Good to excellent understanding of several areas of IT would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to speak French is considered an asset.

This is a 12-month position with a flexible start date.

Candidate Criteria

  • The candidate must be a new entrant into the workforce, transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who is entering a new field.
  • Candidate must have not previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship in the 2020 Mandate.
  • Candidate must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Once hired, the candidate must reside in the Northern Ontario community in which they are employed.
