Job Summary

We are recruiting a quality and results oriented initiative-taker with solid organization and teamwork skills to fill the position of Communications and Events Coordinator. The Communications and Events Coordinator will liaise with management and program staff on event planning and general communications needs. Objectives will be to amplify positive awareness of ISC, its mandate and achievements, engage key stakeholders, partners and potential funders to help fuel ISC’s vision and mission, and facilitate evidence-based information sharing and information transfer.

Principal Accountabilities

• Lead or support planning and implementation for events that can include scientific conferences and

forums, workshops, stakeholder consultations, open houses, tours, expert consultation and review

sessions, VIP visits, presentations, meetings and media events

• Lead or support communications needs for program/project staff including writing and validating

messaging, brand and content for websites, social media, exhibits/displays, traditional media and

technical documents such as factsheets and best management practices

• Content development for newsletter, website and other communications products

• Support business development team with sponsorships, funding applications, relationship

management and project development

• Maintain stakeholder database and distribution lists and ensure information is current and validated

while respecting the privacy and confidentiality of contact information

• Take photos and shoot video

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

• university degree and job experience in business/marketing, communications, public relations, or events management

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional educational credentials in natural or environmental sciences

• Additional certification in public relations, events management

Competencies

The successful candidate will demonstrate ability to:

• proven experience of ability to manage multiple projects; determine project urgency in a practical way; create detailed action plans and budgets; organize and schedule people, vendors, and tasks effectively

• plan work and carry out tasks without detailed instructions; prepare for problems or opportunities in advance; adapt well to changing priorities, deadlines and directions

• demonstrate computer proficiency and have experience with Microsoft Office software

• demonstrate skill with digital tools such as cameras, webcams, video and audio hardware and software

• write and speak effectively

• help to set a tone of cooperation within the work group and across groups; coordinate own work with others

• can maintain high standards despite pressing deadlines and considers excellence a fundamental priority

Other Requirements:

• have a valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle

• evening and weekend work, and travel required to implement events
