The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA is now accepting applications for multiple Lifeguard/swim instructor positions within the Aquatics Department. The ideal candidate should be energetic; self-motivated, must enjoy working with youth, and have the ability to work independently or within a team. Able to work shifts during the daytime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nature and Scope

The Lifeguard/swim instructor will be responsible for the safety and well-being of everyone in the swimming pool and be able to teach various levels of swimming to all age groups.

Responsibilities
Lifeguard/Swim instructors are responsible for:

  • Qualifications: NLS, Standard First Aid and AED, Swim Instructor Certification
  • The safety and well-being of all patrons swimming in the pool
  • Enforcing all Ontario pool regulations and pool rules and admission standards
  • Swim Instructors Are Required To Teach various levels of swimming to all age groups with provided lesson plans Update swim lesson roster weekly and prepare progress card seasonally
  • Effectively communicate with participants, parents for their progression
  • Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Desirable Criteria LSS advanced instructors

Mandatory Requirements

  • Swim Instructor Certification, NLS
  • Current standard First Aid and AED/CPR
  • Current Police Reference and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Availability in morning and afternoon
  • Must have valid Proof of Vaccination
