SCCC’s privacy policy is based upon the ten privacy principles contained within the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Model Privacy Code for the Protection of Personal Information and is modelled on The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). 1.2 Registering for SCCC Programs

The categories of data collected may include, but are not limited to:

  • A first and last name
  • A home or other physical address, including street name and name of a city or town
  • An email address
  • IP Address
  • Internet activity information, including, but not limited to, browsing history, search history, and information regarding a consumer’s interaction with an Internet Website, application, or advertisement
  • Geolocation data

In order to register in certain programs that SCCC offers, it is mandatory that you provide us with contact information, such as an email address and/or phone number, and you understand and agree that you could be contacted via the phone number or email you provide for the purposes related to the program, such as program requirements and evaluations.

 1.3 Newsletters and Other Email Communications

You can opt in to receive marketing emails from SCCC, including email newsletters and event notification emails. The categories of data collected may include, but are not limited to:

  • A first and last name
  • An email address
  • IP Address
  • Internet activity information, including, but not limited to, browsing history, search history, and information regarding a consumer’s interaction with an Internet Website, application, or advertisement, in some cases
  • Geolocation data

When you opt into SCCC marketing emails, you agree to receive SCCC email newsletter(s), event notifications & news emails, and service/program update emails. You may unsubscribe at any time.

1.4 SMS (Text Message) Communications

You can opt in to receive SMS (text message) communications from SCCC, including notifications about programs. The categories of data collected may include, but are not limited to:

  • A first and last name
  • An email address
  • Phone number
  • Employment status
  • Geolocation data
  • When you opt into SCCC’s SMS (text message) communications, you are agreeing to receive SCCC text messages, including messages about information such as appointment/workshop reminders, job opportunities, and other alerts and information regarding SCCC’s programs. There is no fee to participate in SCCC’s SMS (text message) communications; however, standard data rates may apply. Should you wish to opt out of receiving SMS messages, reply STOP or ARRET from your mobile device.

SMS Privacy Assurance

SCCC is committed to protecting your privacy and the confidentiality of your mobile opt-in data. We do not share, sell, or disclose mobile opt-in data (including phone numbers and consent information) to third parties for marketing or any unrelated purposes. Your SMS subscription information is used solely to deliver messages related to SCCC programs and services. Sharing will only occur if required by law or for essential service delivery under strict confidentiality agreements.

Sharing with Other Parties (Clarification for SMS Data)

While SCCC may share certain personal information with trusted third parties for government reporting or service referrals as outlined in this privacy statement, mobile opt-in data collected for SMS communications is never shared for marketing or promotional purposes. Any sharing of SMS-related data is strictly limited to legal obligations or essential service delivery and is conducted under applicable privacy laws and confidentiality agreements.

1.5 Compiling and Analyzing Statistics for Website

Sharing with Other Parties

We only share or disclose personal data to trusted third parties for the purposes of reporting to government agencies, if required; referring clients to other service provider organizations for additional support services, if needed; and referring clients to employment opportunities, if needed.

We commonly share and disclose personal data with the following organizations:

  • Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), through the secure system of Immigration Contribution Agreement Reporting Environment (iCARE)
  • Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development of Ontario (MLITSD)
  • Employment Ontario Information System through their secure Case Management Systems
  • Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)

Personal information is only shared in accordance with the laws and regulations of privacy and personal information protection. For other, non-government reporting purposes, only anonymized and aggregated data is shared.

Disclosure Practices

We disclose personal information if we are required by law or by a court order, in response to a law enforcement agency, to the extent permitted under other provisions of law, to provide information, or for an investigation on a matter related to public safety.

If our website, or other digital tool, or organization, is taken over, sold, or involved in a merger or acquisition, your details may be disclosed to our advisers and any prospective purchasers and will be passed on to the new owners.

How we respond to Do Not Track signals & Global Privacy Control

Our website responds to and supports the Do Not Track (DNT) header request field. If you turn DNT on in your browser, those preferences are communicated to us in the HTTP request header, and we will not track your browsing behaviour.

We reserve the right to make amendments to this privacy statement. It is recommended that you consult this privacy statement regularly in order to be aware of any changes. In addition, we will actively inform you wherever possible.

Accessing and Modifying Your Data

Please make sure to always clearly state who you are, so that we can be certain that we do not modify or delete any data of the wrong person. You may request an overview, in a commonly used format, of the data we process about you.

You may request correction or deletion of the data if it is incorrect or not or no longer relevant. Where appropriate, the amended information shall be transmitted to third parties having access to the information in question.

You have the right to withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. You will be informed of the implications of such withdrawal.

You have the right to address a challenge concerning non-compliance with PIPEDA to our organization and, if the issue is not resolved, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

We shall give access to personal information in an alternative format to an individual with a sensory disability who has a right of access to personal information under PIPEDA and who requests that it be transmitted in the alternative format if (a) a version of the information already exists in that format; or (b) its conversion into that format is reasonable and necessary in order for the individual to be able to exercise rights.

Children

Our website and mobile app are not designed to attract children, and it is not our intent to collect personal data from children under the age of consent in their country of residence. We therefore request that children under the age of consent do not submit any personal data to us.
