Apprenticeship Support Program

Important Announcement: Conclusion of the Apprenticeship Support Program

We regret to inform everyone that our Apprenticeship Support Program has ended due to funding, effective April 1, 2024.

Over the past three years, the Apprenticeship Support Program has helped local job seekers and apprentices begin and/or successfully complete an apprenticeship in the skilled trades by providing free access to vocational aptitude pre-assessments, in-demand trade apprenticeship market information, and information on apprenticeship pathways and completion strategies.

It delivered individualized wrap-around supports such as mental health support, guidance on managing a successful skilled trades career, exam preparation, and navigating lay-offs. It also gave local skilled trades employers, apprentice sponsors, and journeypersons the information, tools, and strategies to successfully train and retain apprentices.

We’re immensely grateful for the unwavering support we received from our partners and stakeholders. Your collaboration and commitment were pivotal to the success of this program.

Reflecting on our achievements since 2021 fills us with pride and gratitude:

  • 2,125 program participants
  • 69 local skilled trades employers benefited from its services
  • 302 local apprentices supported
  • 91 new apprentice registrations facilitated
  • 59 apprentices progressed to the next stage of their training
  • 89% of participants completed the program and secured employment
  • 42 local journeypersons received specialized training to support apprentices
  • 37% of apprentices obtained their Certificate of Apprenticeship or Certificate of Qualification
  • 3 events hosted, each dedicated to a key issue: promoting women in the skilled trades, mental health support, and skilled trades mentorship

While we say goodbye to the Apprenticeship Support Program, the Sault Community Career Centre remains committed to serving the needs of program participants, employers, and community partners through our Employment Ontario Employment Services.
