Duties

Provides clerical, financial and administrative/operational support services and related information/guidance, in support of the Sault Ste. Marie Canal and Fort St. Joseph National Historic Sites.

Work environment

Nestled beneath the International Bridge in downtown Sault Ste. Marie Canal was built to bypass the rapids on the St. Marys River. Opened in 1895, the canal completed an all-Canadian waterway featuring the longest lock in the world and the first to operate using electricity. The site’s recreational lock, historic sandstone buildings, picturesque grounds, and unique Emergency Swing Dam make it a magnet for tourists and locals alike.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to fill a part-time permanent vacancy (0.5 FTE year-round).

This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic requirements in same or other parts of the country.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma (or PSC-approved equivalent) OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the position

**Preference may be given to candidates who have successfully completed post-secondary training in a finance or administrative-related field (bookkeeping, accounting, business administration, commerce, etc.)

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
. Experience in dealing with the public, both by telephone and in person
. Recent experience providing a variety of general administrative services including creating and managing files, arranging meetings and recording meeting minutes, maintaining databases, data entry, handling mail and courier services
. Recent experience in providing financial support services such as verifying and correcting financial claims, controlling and monitoring petty cash, verifying, controlling and submitting deposits and related paperwork
. Recent experience working with Microsoft Office suite of software (including Excel and Microsoft Word)
. Experience in purchasing and/or procurement considered an asset
. Experience using the SAP system considered an asset

**Recent – minimum of 6 months within the last 36 months.
