JOB SUMMARY:
A. Varsity Sport Coordination (90%)
B. Revenue Generation (10%)
Reporting to the Director of Student Life and Ancillary Services, the Athletics Operations Coordinator provides support to Algoma University’s Varsity programs including logistics for Varsity teams (schedules, uniforms and equipment), facility needs, practice schedules, and coordination of game staff and officials. The Coordinator is also responsible for all Varsity travel arrangements as per university policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Varsity Sport Coordination

● Responsible for arranging all team travel, accommodations and meal per diem
and reconciliation of travel expenses with the Financial Services Department
● Schedules and supervises varsity Student Assistants
● Ensures that all logistics for varsity home games are coordinated as required and
leads a team of student staff (set-up crew, announcer, writer, etc.) to ensure that
game setup is completed and that the game is choreographed and run in an
efficient and entertaining way for fans
● Ensures that all game scores, stats and other details are recorded and digitally
submitted with the appropriate software to the respective leagues as mandated
by OUA/CIS
● Responsible for training and supervision of Student Team Managers
● Works with varsity coaches and athletes to order new uniforms or varsity clothing
to be purchased by student athletes; acts as liaison between the varsity teams
and the varsity clothing supplier
● Orders required team equipment and supplies and maintains inventory control
● Manages all varsity team equipment and uniforms to ensure that they are clean
and ready for the coaches to pick up in a timely manner prior to games and
practices
● Assists in coordinating team training camps, working with coaches to arrange for
accommodations and meals and ensuring that field bookings are secured
● Completion, submission, and compliance checking of all OUA/U Sports eligibility
● Responds to requests for information from leagues and other
universities/colleges
● Assists any hosting responsibilities for regional, provincial or national events
successfully awarded to Algoma University
● Takes leadership in planning annual varsity events, including the Athletic Awards
Banquet, Athletic Alumni Events, theme games, fundraisers, and others as
assigned
● May travel with teams to assigned regional, provincial or national events
● As required, attends assigned OUA/U-Sport meetings
● Responsible for the coordination of fan and student engagement
● Responsible for selecting team mascot and managing appearances
● Maintains and updates varsity display case at GLC
● In collaboration with Communications Department, produces a comprehensive
game program and media guides for varsity teams
● Collaborates with Communications Department on content and scheduling of
social media posts
● Maintains knowledge of sport and hosting rules per applicable regulatory bodies
● Acts as administrator for Athlete Information Software
● Acts as administrator for Algoma University information in the U-Sports Portal

B. Revenue Generation

● Responsible for supporting overall university fundraising plans as required
● Responsible for making team merchandise available to fans
● Supports Game Day revenue generation opportunities and contributes to Game Day revenue strategic plan

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Physical Effort
    ○ Will be required to lift and move heavy objects (i.e. tables, chairs, sports
    equipment/supplies)
  • Physical Environment
    ○ Occasionally will have to work in extreme temperatures with a high noise level
  • Sensory Attention
    ○ Frequent distractions during event operations
  • Mental Stress
    ○ Late evenings and weekends are required
    ○ Frequent travel off campus is required
    ○ Required to resolve complaints/conflict between coaches and players

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
● Degree/Diploma in Business, Sports Administration, or equivalent
● Minimum 3 years’ experience in an Athletics Environment
● Experience with running events and coordinating logistics
● Strong organizational skills
● Current Standard CPR, First Aid and AED.
● Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and G-Suite
● Proficiency in sport statistics tracking an asset
● Strong communication and leadership skills
● Maintain a valid driver’s license and abstract check as requested
