Position: **12-Month Contract** Early Childhood One-on-One Workers
Starting Range: $24.57-$27.03 (Pending Education & Experience)
Location: Child Care Centre
Report to: Child Care Centre Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
The One-on-one Child Care Worker, Child Care Centre is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in accordance with the Child Care Centre philosophy, providing care and education for an individual child in the Centre under the direction of the Manager, Child Care Centre.
The One-on-One Child Care Worker, Child Care Centre functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Nation, and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.
DUTIES
- Work in collaboration with the Preschool teacher(s) to provide a high quality, play-based developmentally appropriate program that reflects the Early Learning Program;
- Support the consistent delivery of programs that are based on current research and best practice;
- Assist in the development and implementation of daily activities for the specific child they are working with;
- Support in providing a welcoming, safe, nurturing, inclusive, positive and respectful environment that recognizes individual differences in the child;
- Providing a balance of active, quiet, indoor, outdoor, individual/group activities
- Carrying out the daily program schedule incorporating activities and routines
- Planning and presenting activities incorporating our culture, language and values
- Using a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing
- Assisting specific child in expressing themselves by actively listening and responding with questions and comments that extend and encourage conversations specific to the child’s abilities and current skill level, Encouraging and assisting child to practice self-help skills daily
- Providing opportunities for child-directed play experiences for child to choose to be alone
- Participating in short- and long-term planning and individualized program evaluation
- Discussing and seeking approval from the Program Manager for any changes in the daily schedule and duly noting in the daily log after discussing with Program Manager
- Performing other duties as may be required or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required Early Childhood Education diploma, Child and Youth Worker, or equivalent as approved through the provincial licensing process and Program Manager
- Must be licensed with the College of ECE and in good standing if Early Childhood Education diploma is completed
- Required six months experience is preferred; Related skills: IS, CPR, First Aid and Knowledge of legislation
- Ability to research, plan and implement well-organized activities/programs
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge to the First Nation cultural values and traditions
- Ability to use good judgment – assessing difficult situations; Being consistent and display a positive/helpful attitude
- Flexibility required to keep pace with an ever-changing environment; Stamina, sensitivity and strong negotiation and advocacy skills; Willingness to accept changes in work practices and technology
- Ability to work under pressure; meet deadlines; Work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team
- Excellent organizational & time management skills, interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written
- Excellent computer skills (including MS Word, Word Perfect, Excel, Internet, Email, Outlook)
- Ability to report for work as scheduled
- Ability to attend at work regularly
- Must undergo a criminal record with vulnerable sector check prior to employment (At Applicant Expense)
