Duties & Responsibilities
Communications and Customer Relations
- Greeting customers in a friendly positive manner
- Providing customers with in-store and telephone assistance
- Answring communications (telephone, email and social media) and responding to customer/donor inquiries
- Booking customer/donor truck deliveries and pickups
Sales
- Generating sales and identifying upselling opportunities
- Following established procedures for customer sales, credits and returns
- Following established procedures for the online shop, including product uploads
- Operating point of sale and debit terminal
- Reconciling daily sales
- Providing customers with accurate change
- Cleaning, pricing, and processing donated items as directed by management
- Filling out necessary paperwork for sold/delivery items
Inventory, Merchandising and Cleanliness
- Ensuring all materials donated are of resale quality, repaired (if necessary) clean, and inventoried
- Ensuring product is displayed and merchandised for optimum exposure and salability
- Ensuring displays are updated regularly and kept current
- Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, neatness, functionality and overall presentation of the facility
Safety & Warehouse Operations
- Maintaining a clean work environment including interior and exterior spaces, including waste disposal, and scrap metal/electronic recycling pickups
Knowledge of Brand and Products
- Promoting Habitat for Humanity Vision, Mission and Values
- Promoting ReStore products in accordance with our discount policy
- Promoting the use of the Processing Centre for high quality donations
Other
- Performing additional duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum Grade 10
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills
- Must be adept at handling money and operating POS and debit terminal
- Basic accounting skills for making change
- Ability to work through difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
- Additional skills including:
- Organized, accurate, and efficient
- Dependable, with good time management
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to problem solve and exercise good judgement
Other Requirements
To be eligible, youth must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
