ReStore Sales/Donation Centre Associate

This is an 8-week summer student position. 

The ReStore Sales / Donation Centre Associate is primarily responsible for customer interactions and ensuring that the store area is kept neat and tidy. Also, day to day operations of the donation processing centre, assisting with the ReStore truck, and ensuring that the donation area is kept neat and tidy. The core competencies for this position include Organizational Skills, Problem Solving, Communications and Customer Relations, Sales, and Knowledge of Habitat for Humanity Brand and ReStore Products. This work will be done in accordance with the Habitat for Humanity Canada and Habitat for Humanity Sault Ste. Marie by working collaboratively with volunteers and other staff to ensure the highest standards are achieved. The ReStore Sales / Donation Centre Associate is also responsible for upholding the Vision, Mission, and Values of Habitat for Humanity Sault Ste. Marie & Area and for complying with all policies, procedures, and directives.

This is an 8-week Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) position. Hours will generally be between 9:30 am – 6:00 pm, Monday through Saturday.

Key Responsibilities

Communications and Customer Relations

  • Greeting customers in a friendly manner
  • Making announcements over the PA system
  • Providing customers with in-store assistance
  • Answering communications (telephone, email and social media) and responding to customer/donor inquiries
  • Inspecting donations at pickup and enforcing requirements tactfully
  • Interacting and coordinating with warehouse staff and volunteers
  • Assisting customers and donors with loading and unloading of merchandise

Sales

  • Following established procedures for customer sales, credits, and returns
  • Following established procedures for the online shop, including product uploads
  • Operating cash register and debit terminal
  • Providing customers with accurate change
  • Cleaning, pricing, and processing donated items as directed by management
  • Filling out necessary paperwork for sold/delivery items

Organizational Skills

  • Maintaining warehouse inventory layout to maximize efficiency
  • Maintaining accuracy of inventory
  • Maintaining cleanliness in yard and bin area
  • Assisting with loading and unloading the ReStore vehicles
  • Assisting with maintaining the cleanliness of the ReStore delivery truck
  • Ensuring donations are processed properly
  • Completing day-to-day pickups and deliveries for the ReStore

Problem Solving

  • Repairing and preparing donations for the ReStore sales floor
  • Dealing with customer complaints at pickup and delivery locations by responding in a courteous and respectful manner

Knowledge of Habitat for Humanity and ReStore Products

  • Promoting Habitat for Humanity Vision, Mission and Values
  • Promoting ReStore products in accordance with our discount policy
  • Promoting the use of the Donation Centre for high quality donations

 Other

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

  • Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Criminal Records Check is required as a condition of employment
  • CSA approved footwear is required
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work through difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Additional skills including:
    • Organized, accurate, and efficient
    • Dependable, with good time management
    • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
    • Ability to problem solve and exercise good judgement
