Position: Health Director

POSITION SUMMARY
The Health Director supports and promotes a healthy and vibrant community by providing senior management leadership and public health expertise. The Director is responsible for the overall planning, organization, directing and controlling of the social services department of Garden River First Nation and all relevant health programs.
The Position ensures the delivery of essential public health services within a variety of settings while ensuring compliance with all relevant and applicable health codes, regulations and policies. The Director is expected to provide oversight, direction and participate in multi-facetted community health projects while making sure that the appropriate communications are conveyed to the relevant stakeholders.
The Health Director functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Nation and contributes to the accomplishments of the strategic priorities.
DUTIES
• Developing the Centre’s strategic plan collaboratively with relevant stakeholders including the Chief and Council and the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), ensuring community input is sought and considered and overseeing the implementation of the strategic plan.
• Creating, developing, negotiating and managing proposals and business plans for current and future funding initiatives.
• Developing annual operating budget based on government regulations and policies, procedures and guidelines, financial regulations of GRFN and with approval from the the CAO and the Chief and Council.
• Research and develop health policies and programs.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health programs.
• Ensure compliance with health regulations and standards.
• Develops, prepares, manages, reviews and monitors all relevant budgets within the scope of control for this position.
• Interprets, analyses, and monitors financial reports.
• Assist in the development and approves the various departments planning, training and activities to prepare and provide support for community health emergencies.
• Collaborates in the development, implementation, tracking and evaluation of short- and long-range policies, procedures, plans and programs for community health including the departmental strategic plan.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of community health engagement strategies.
• Is lead advocate for public health in the community.
• Performing other related duties as may be required and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration or human services required – equivalent education and experience may be considered.
• Minimum 10 years experience in the health/social services setting (which includes 5 years in a managerial role)
• Strong understanding of public health policies and regulations.
• Excellent leadership and managerial skills.
• Strong abilities in budget management, financial reporting, resource allocation, data analysis and interpretation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
• Experience in strategic planning and program development.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Familiarity with health care technology and electronic health records.
• Knowledge and experience of First Nation culture, values, and traditions
• Must possess a valid driving license.
• Must undergo a criminal record vulnerable sector check prior to employment (At Applicant Expense)
