Environmental Technician (Water Team)

Wages: $19.80/hour, 35h per week, 8-week contract

Anticipated start date: May 5, 2025

  • Assist with planning, organizing and executing community events and engagements
  • Assist with daily tasks, including water quality monitoring/field work
  • Provide support during citizen science training sessions
  • Maintain inventory of water quality monitoring supplies
  • Ensure Water Rangers Freshwater Explorer Test kits are clean, organized, and ready for volunteers sign out
  • Assist in the preparation of educational tools for outreach and training (creating media communications such as posters or social media posts
  • Create educational community newsletters to engage the community with the guidance of supervisors and managers
  • Engage with local Indigenous communities and learn about Traditional Knowledge and land guardianship Learn about Two-eyed seeing methods and approaches-collaboration of science and Traditional Knowledge
  • Opportunities to engage and recruit other youth in water quality monitoring and training

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced, changing environment;
  • Class G license in good standing;
  • Access to personal vehicle, ability and willingness to use it for work purposes (mileage to be reimbursed);
  • First Aid/CPR and asset;
  • Able and willing to work in person, onsite in Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding areas (no remote work will be offered); Able and willing to travel locally (day trips) and/or some evenings and weekends;
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
