JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently looking for a Summer Camp Lifeguard to join our team of committed professionals. This is a full time summer contract position within the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA.

Positions are available at two sites – our Sault College Waterfront and McNabb. Please indicate which site, you are applying for and list any relevant experience.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of everyone at our waterfront site* (Sault College Waterfront)
  • Enforcing all Ontario pool/waterfront regulations and water safety rules and admission standards
  • Assist in delivering daily camp activities: group games, crafts, swimming, outside time, etc.
  • Supervise, engage and participate with the program participants in group activities
  • Communicate with all staff, Site Leads and Supervisor/Managers
  • Ensure safety of all participants, property, staff and volunteers by established practices and procedures
  • Maintain the inventory of required supplies and request more when needed
  • Represent the YMCA in a professional manner at all times & welcome all children to camp

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • must be able to swim
  • must be a Canadian citizen, Canadian permanent resident or refugee
  • must be 15-30yrs of age

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Lifeguards must possess National Lifeguard Certification
  • High Five Sport or Principles of Healthy Child Development an asset not a requirement
  • Current Certification in Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
  • Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Experience working with children and youth in a recreational setting
  • Education in Child and Youth Work / Education / Psychology / Disability Support Work / Social Work / Kinesiology / Recreation an asset
  • must be a Canadian citizen, Canadian permanent resident or refugee
  • must be 15-30yrs of age

JOB TYPES: Full-time, Fixed term contract

SCHEDULE:

  • Day shift – 8:30-4:30 or 9-5
  • Monday to Friday

WORK LOCATION: McNabb site or Sault College Waterfront site
