Job Title: Community Arts Programming Assistant

Start Date: June 30, 2025

Pay: $20.30 per hour, 31 hours per week for 9 weeks (contract)

We’re seeking three (3) Community Arts Programming Assistants to support Thinking Rock’s current arts-based programs, in-person from our space in Thessalon (199 Main Street) and at offsite locations across Algoma. Working cooperatively as part of the Thinking Rock team, they’ll support and participate in the design, delivery, coordination and evaluation of online, in-person and hybrid programming that brings people of all ages, Nations, abilities, backgrounds and identities together for creative, collaborative community building.

  • passion and/or experience in the arts;
  • prior community outreach and/or client service experience;
  • French and/or Anishinaabemowin language skills;
  • a valid driver’s license, and/or access to transportation to attend work; and
  • a valid Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector).

These positions are supported by the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program (2) and the Summer Employment Opportunities (SEO) Program (1).

As specified in the program requirements, an eligible youth candidate for the CSJ-Funded Positions:
(a) is between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
(b) is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and
(c) has a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and is legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.

As specified in the program requirements, an eligible youth candidate for the SEO-Funded Position:
(a) Is a student or recent graduate, as defined by one of the following:

– someone enrolled in a secondary school (currently or for the fall semester);
– someone enrolled in a postsecondary institution (currently or for the fall semester);
– someone who graduated from secondary or post-secondary school within six months from the start of the summer placement; or
– someone who graduated in December would be eligible to start a position up until June of the next year.
(b) And is also:
– at least 15 years old by the first day of employment;
– is living in Ontario during the term of employment;
– is legally entitled to work in Canada for the full duration of the employment period; and
– has a valid social insurance number upon being hired.
