Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Hiring Event – Part-time Civilian Positions!

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service hosts upcoming Hiring Event to expand Civilian Staff team! 

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, in partnership with the Sault Community Career Centre, is hosting a hiring event on Wednesday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Sault Community Career Centre, 503 Queen Street East.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is actively looking for professionals to join its team of Civilian staff members. Civilian members are integral to the service Sault Ste. Marie Police provide to the community.  They are often the first point of contact for people contacting the police.

Approximately 70 civilians work in various areas, including 911 communications, court services, investigation services, and central records. Civilian members are responsible for many of the data entry and administrative tasks associated with policing, allowing officers to complete their tasks more effectively.

Part-time (minimum 20 hours/week) Relief staff member positions are available. Part-time Relief staff members relieve full-time civilian positions as required, including, but not limited to, 12-hour shift clerks, 911 police communicators, and general clerical assignments.

Essential duties include transcribing reports, data input into computer systems, and relieving 911 police communicators. Secondary duties include general office duties, typing, filing, document retrieval and distribution.

The salary for Data Entry assignments ranges from $25.61 to $30.26 per hour, while other assignments, such as 911 Relief, range from $35.99 to $42.45 per hour.

Job Requirements include:

  • Grade 12 Secondary Diploma
  • Excellent typing and keyboarding skills (min. 35 wpm)
  • Dicta-typing
  • Computer awareness/Word processing
  • Good judgment and assessment skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Initiative, discretion, and the ability to work well under high-stress and pressured situations

Equipment Used: Personal computer, dispatch/telephone console, Microsoft Software, RMS NICHE, CPIC, Photocopier, Fax.
